About Manhattan, Ks

Settled back in 1855 and coming from humble beginnings, Manhattan has now grown to be the forth largest metropolitan area in the proud state of Kansas. Manhattan is located in Riley County at the junction of the Kansas River and Big Blue River and has a bustling population of over 110,000, with over 50,000 within the city limits. It is home to Kansas State University and offers big town amenities for students at KSU and the military personnel at nearby Fort Riley, while having a quaint small town feel.

Manhattan back in 2007 was listed by CNN Money as one of the ten best places to retire young in the United States and in 2011, Forbes Magazine rated Manhattan No. 1 for “Best Small Communities for a Business and Career.” It was also the first city in Kansas to be named an “All-American City” back in 1952. Clearly Manhattan is the place to be and to conduct business!

Manhattan is in a beautiful location, being surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills filled with tall glasses giving a prairie like landscape. However the city itself is constructed on a large flat floodplain of the Rivers rather than in the rolling hills. However, expansion over the years has caused the community to grow into these areas. Tuttle Creek Reservoir serves the city as a pretty state park and just south of Manhattan is the Konza Prairie, a tallgrass prairie preserve jointly owned by The Nature Conservancy and Kansas State offering residents the chance to get outdoors and enjoy the surrounding beauty on offer in Manhattan.

Other great local attractions are the annual Country Stampede Music Festival – the largest music festival in Kansas – as well as the Sunset Zoo, Colbert Hills Golf Course – which is annually ranked by Golf Digest among the best in the state – and so much more!

Families from all over the country are looking at relocating to Northeastern Kansas and Manhattan because of its beauty, slower pace of live and high quality of life available at an affordable price.
